Gearing up for going back to school involves more than books, laptops, and backpacks—it also means fuelling the body, mind, and spirit with nutritious, great tasting, and convenient foods and beverages for home and school. That requires busy parents and kids to find snacks and drinks that fit the bill. Fortunately the selection in Canada has never been greater.
Given the growing selection of 100% organic fruit beverages on the market, there’s no excuse for resorting to anything less. A wide variety of choices are available in kid-friendly juice boxes from Kiju, ranging from apple to pomegranate cherry, cranberry pomegranate blueberry, and more. These juices can be part of a healthy breakfast and lunch as well as after-school snacks. You can even add these juices to smoothies.
Kids can also enjoy Kiju organic beverages as frozen treats. Simply pour your favourite juice into popsicle moulds, pop them into the freezer, and in a few hours you have healthy after-school snacks. Add organic berries to the juice before freezing for an extra treat! Kiju also has some great recipes to “Think Outside the Juice box”. Check them out here.
Kids love snacks that are easy to eat and carry, and MadeGood granola bars, crispy squares, and mini bites are excellent choices. Parents love them not only because all the products are organic; they also are allergen-free (i.e., no peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, dairy, egg, soy, sesame, fish, or shellfish), contain the nutrients from one full serving of vegetables and are gluten-free and non-GMO project verified. Another great option is Nudge organic nutritious snack bars which are peanut free and gluten free.
If allergens are not an issue, Nature’s Path offers organic, non-GMO verified snack bars in more than two dozen flavours (some peanut free), as well as four varieties of sandwich cookies. If you want to pack in plant protein, then Simply Protein’s Kids Bars provide 4 grams per bar and come in three flavours children love.
Are your kids getting enough vegetables? What if veggies were hidden in cookies? Each 40 grams of Hidden Garden cookies contain ¼ to ½ cup of vegetables—spinach, beets, squash, or pumpkin. These “veggie” cookies also are free of nuts, gluten, and artificial preservatives, flavours, and colours.
Send your kids back to school with nutritious snacks you feel good about and that they need and deserve.
